Los Urrutias is a traditional beach resort on the shore of the Mar Menor, close to the north-eastern corner of the large municipality of Cartagena, not far from the boundary with Los Alcázares.
The main attraction of Los Urrutias is the beach, with the warm water of the Mar Menor ensuring that it is possible to swim in the sea practically all year round. There are hardly any waves in the lagoon which makes the area ideal for practicing or learning water sports in its popular marina: “Marina de Los Urrutias”.
The area is ideal for trekkers and sports enthusiasts as it has an old volcano called “Cabezo del Carmolí” (111m altitude) which erupted over 7 million years ago. Today it is a well visited trail due to the breath-taking views of the Mar Menor and “El Campo de Cartagena”.
The town itself has a large selection of bars and restaurants all within walking distance, there is also a sports center and a medical center nearby.
Cartagena is a 20-minute drive away offering many other forms of recreation such as guided tours of its ancient Roman Ruins, a large shopping center (Espacio Mediterraneo) and a beautiful port complete with multi-million-euro yachts (some offering tours inside) and traditional Spanish ice cream parlours along the promenade.
